Madeline Font

Madeline Font was created by John Baskerville in 1757. It is named after his type foundry, which he opened in 1757. The typeface was created to improve upon the legibility of existing typefaces. Baskerville’s typeface was used extensively by the Cambridge University Press and became popular in books and newspapers.

In 1763, Baskerville published a Specimen of Printing Types, which included 44 fonts in three sizes. The typeface all weight includes Opentype features and Truetype features, it has a pairing personality with hype font. The typeface was later modified by John Thorne in 1790. Thorne made this typeface more delicate and increased the x-height.

This version of the typeface became known as “Thorn’s Improved Baskerville.”
